About purimfest!
We're so excited to share in a weekend of inspiring, radical, creative, extravagant collaboration in ritual, arts, food, dancing, and general ruckus to celebrate the rich holiday of Purim. With the Purim story comes questions about power, class, and division. And, in OUR home-written Purimshpiel,* Mordechai unionizes against the ruling class! The theme this weekend will be celebrating survival, exploring solidarity in communities who face threats to our cultures & lives, and taking joy in our existence. We want Jews - (Mizrahi, Sephardi, Ashkenazi; Black, Indigenous, other Jews of Color; queer, trans, disabled, and every other kind of Jew!) - to get to celebrate our most joyful holiday! And we want non-Jewish friends and allies to come celebrate with us. PurimFest! welcomes kids, but is targeted toward those of us in our 20s and 30s (and anyone young at heart). The weekend will be FUN & SILLY, SERIOUS & PONDERING, OUT OF LINE and IN STYLE, and will open and build us up to the culminating PURIMSHPIEL and SHVITZ DANCE PARTY
on Sunday night! *For those new to Purim & other Jewish celebrations: see below for a vocab glossary ;) Note: This event is open to all, and in order to make it safe AND fun for all, we have a hard stop against racism, transphobia, homophobia, antisemitism, xenophobia, and any & all other oppressive habits/behaviors. We might make mistakes, but let's do our real BEST to leave the junk at home (and clean the house) so we can build something beautiful together. |
